Fish in Ponds
March 22, 2024
On March 22, First Coast CMS distributed an e-mail blast concerning a reported fish kill in certain of the ponds within Bainebridge Estates. If you did not receive this e-mail and wish to be included on the e-mail blast list, send an e-mail to tony@firstcoastcms.com and ask to be included on the e-mail blast list for the Bainebridge CDD.
The March 22nd e-mail blast contained the following information:
- The CDD received reports regarding numerous dead fish within certain of the ponds in Bainebridge Estates. The CDD notified its contracted aquatic and lake maintenance company to assess the situation and advise a course of action. The company determined that the ponds in question had low oxygen levels and the species of dead fish were not native to the ponds.
- Individuals may not stock fish in the ponds. Any fish stocking may only be performed by the aquatics maintenance company with approval and in accordance with applicable permitting.
- The retention ponds exist in order to help facilitate the District’s natural water system for runoff and overflow. Per the CDD’s policy regarding the stormwater retention ponds:
- Fishing or swimming is not permitted in the retention ponds.
- Watercrafts of any kind are not allowed in the ponds except for lake maintenance watercraft.
- Anyone who violates this policy does so at his/her own risk.
- To report any issue regarding the retention ponds or if you have any questions regarding the ponds, please contact District Manager Lesley Gallagher at lgallagher@rizzetta.com.
